Rewards potential

To determine the rewards potential of the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ card, we consider what an American household might spend on a credit card each year. Forbes Advisor uses data from various government agencies to determine both basic incomes and spending averages in various categories. Our estimated 70th percentile household brings in $107,908 a year and we base our expenses on that figure.

Forbes Advisor estimates the household has $32,072 in expenses that can reasonably be charged to a credit card. Of that amount, we estimate $4,511 was spent on dining and dining, $3,762 on travel, $999 on public transit, $2,850 on gas, $722 on streaming, 1 $805 for phone plans and $17,423 for all other credit card purchases. With $14,649 spent annually in the 3-point-per-dollar spending categories, this sample household could expect to gain 43,947 points. Add to that an additional 17,423 points earned at 1 point per dollar, and the family earns 61,370 points per year in total.
