Victoria has registered 733 new local cases of Covid as fears grow that violent protests across Melbourne could be a super-spreading event.
A Covid-related death was also recorded on Friday, the health service confirmed.
Protesters who attended day three of the recurring Melbourne protests were encouraged to get tested as another member of the crowd battles COVID-19 at the hospital.

The Victoria Health Department confirmed that one person was being treated in hospital after attending the sometimes violent rally on Wednesday.
“Public health investigations are underway,” a spokesperson said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
“We urge protesters to get tested if they have COVID-like symptoms, even if they are mild.”
The infection will be included in the official tally of cases on Friday.
The COVID-positive protester was among a crowd of 400 to 600 who invaded the Victorian capital on Wednesday, despite stay-at-home orders and repeated warnings from authorities.
Singing “daily” from the Shrine of Remembrance, hundreds without masks, some still wearing high-visibility clothing, marched through town to the war memorial.
Riot squad members fired tear gas and other non-lethal shells as the rioters grew increasingly hostile and refused to leave, with two officers injured and 215 arrested.
The protests initially started against mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for the construction industry and the closure of teahouses on construction sites, but have since turned into wider unrest.
A fourth day of planned protests was a non-event, with protesters largely absent on Thursday despite reporting of potential dating sites.
Police pounced on the protesters before they could gather in large numbers, making 92 arrests.
