The frustrating reason Western Australians won’t get vaccinated – and it has nothing to do with anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories
A Perth resident has revealed the frustrating reason many Western Australians refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Western Australia is currently lagging behind in the rollout of the vaccine in the country, raising fears the state may not exceed its 90 target percent and open its borders by Christmas.
However, a staff member at KIIS FM in Perth claims that the reason why so many locals refuse the jab actually has nothing to do with anti-vaxxer beliefs or conspiracy theories.
Explaining the situation during Tuesday’s Kyle And Jackie O Show, video producer Jermaine D’Vauz said residents are so determined to eradicate Covid from Western Australia that they would rather stay unvaccinated because of jab rates. high would mean opening the border to travelers.
As of Tuesday, 54.7% of Western Australians were fully vaccinated.
“The people of Perth are so obsessed with it being ‘Covid zero’. They feel, because they’re so far apart, that it’s ‘us versus them,’ Jermaine explained.
“I know some people who won’t get vaccinated because they don’t want to open up. They want this to continue to be “Covid zero,” he later added.

KIIS FM shock jocks Kyle Sandilands (left) and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson (right) were shocked on Tuesday’s show after Jermaine said residents of Western Australia are so determined to eradicate Covid from Western Australia that they would rather remain unvaccinated, as high jab rates would mean opening the border to travelers
Co-host Kyle Sandilands called Covid State’s hermit-style approach “archaic”, saying: “This is insane, the whole place is going to go bankrupt!”
“They can’t all think like that, surely!” Co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson said, adding: ‘They must want to travel.
Kyle answered gravely, “This is Western Australia, mate.” It’s another world out there.

Western Australian Prime Minister Mark McGowan has refused to budge on his strict border closure, insisting earlier this month that the state would remain closed to the rest of the country until 90% of residents have been vaccinated.
Given the vaccine complacency in Covid-free WA, which puts it at the back of the field in the vaccine race, it might not be until Easter 2022.
The closure means thousands of families could be forced to celebrate Christmas apart from loved ones for the second year in a row.

Vaccines are essential in reducing the spread of preventable diseases, and any suggestion to the contrary goes against the science and advice of medical experts around the world.
The coronavirus vaccine is a safe and vital step that is taken to protect the community from the spread of the virus.
Slow to the finish line: Western Australia may not reach 90% immunization target anytime soon, with vaccine adoption in state among nation’s weakest
