The eyes of the world were on Britain today as Queen Elizabeth’s funeral took place, with media around the world captivated by the unparalleled scale, pomp and ceremony of the occasion.
“Few leaders receive such an outpouring of love,” Norwegian public broadcaster NRK said on its front page while Germany’s Tagesspiegel lamented that “we will never see anything like it again.”
Some 500 world leaders crammed into Westminster Abbey for a service that was likened to a global ‘who’s who’, while 2 million people filled the streets and around 4 billion listened from home to which has been dubbed “the most watched event in history”. .
Charles’ tears for his mother as the national anthem played grabbed headline attention, as did the simple handwritten card he placed on Elizabeth’s coffin as she paraded through the streets.
