Pueblo County law enforcement crack down on expired license plates

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Pueblo County law enforcement announces they will begin issuing citations to motorists who do not have renewed license plates and who drive with temporary tags or tags expired.

Over the past year, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Deputies, Pueblo Police Officers, and Colorado State Patrollers have relaxed the enforcement of tags and records expired due to the COVID-19 pandemic . This would have led the Pueblo clerk and recorders office to operate by appointment only and some were scheduled for 60 days.

“We have used a little stealth on expired plates over the past year and a half due to COVID. It is time to return to firm enforcement of these offenses in the interest of community safety, â€said Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor. “Enough is enough. We cannot allow this to continue.”

Law enforcement officials say they have noticed that many motorists “take advantage of the circumstances and forgo buying or renewing their license plates in a timely manner.”

“Due to non-compliance with registration requirements, we will intensify our efforts to enforce registration violations as well as other improper driving violations for motorists on Pueblo County roads,” Lyons said. . “We encourage everyone to immediately renew their expired license plates and make an appointment with the county clerk for new vehicle registrations to avoid enforcement action by the forces of the United States. ‘order.”

This execution is scheduled to begin on July 15.
