The Duke of Cambridge was retired from the age of eight at Ludgrove School in Berkshire. But royal author Duncan Larcombe claimed William was keen to ensure his children were not “wrapped up in boarding school”.

Mr Larcombe added that eight-year-old George would likely be a day boarder rather than full time.

The royal commentator said OK! magazine: “That’s what I understood [that] for a time, perhaps even before George was born, William was very keen that any child he had would not be sent to boarding school.

“Eton for William and Harry wasn’t a bad time, other than the fact that it was when their mother passed away, which means William doesn’t blame the school or the boarding experience.

“But he never intended to have his children as full-time boarders and if George goes to a school that offers it, he will likely be a day boarder.”

George is currently attending Thomas’s Battersea in London with his six-year-old sister Princess Charlotte.

There has been much speculation as to whether George will follow in his father’s footsteps by going to boarding school.

It has also been reported that Kate and William are considering moving to Berkshire.

Last month, a source told Vanity Fair: “William and Kate are very seriously considering moving to Windsor, and this has been discussed with the Queen.

“There are options at Windsor Castle, which is vast, and being close to the Queen, who is 95, makes sense for the family.

“William and Kate have spoken to their close friends about leaving Kensington Palace where they feel very neglected.

“It will remain their official base in London, but they prefer to be in the countryside and the journey to London would be very easy.”

A source also told the Mail on Sunday in August: “Anmer Hall made sense while William was a helicopter pilot in East Anglia and it was useful for Christmases in Sandringham, but it doesn’t really work anymore.

“It’s a bit too far for the weekends, but Windsor is a perfect compromise. They are considering options in the area.”
