Only one functioning ATM at CSMT; the passengers lament
Hundreds of long distance train travellers, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji (CSTM) terminus, are facing problems due to the non-functioning of the three State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs over the past few weeks. An ATM of another bank is however operational but is located in the suburban section of the terminus. People therefore have no choice but to go upstairs with their luggage to withdraw money.
A notice outside the SBI ATMs read: “This ATM is being moved, please visit our nearest ATM at the following address – SBI Fort market branch, Rupam Hotel building, 39 PD; mello Road, Opposite GPO, Fort, Mumbai- 400001. Inconvenience is regretted.”
CSMT has 18 platforms, seven of which handle local rail operations and the rest handle courier express trains. On average, approximately 90 (45 pairs) of long-distance trains are processed daily at CSMT.
Ramesh Sharma, 37, a passenger, said: ‘In this sweltering weather, running from one ATM to another is very difficult. Today I went to an ATM outside platform number 18 but it was closed. The authorities must understand the problems of passengers. Another passenger, Zahid Mirza, 43, said: “The ATM in the courtyard of the station facilitated a number of passengers. The railway authorities and the bank must find a solution and resume service quickly. Mirza, a resident of Aurangabad, had come to Mumbai for a business visit.
The FPJ repeatedly tried to contact SBI for its version, but the spokesperson did not respond to phone calls, text messages and emails.
