Brian Williams to leave NBC after 28 years: Former Nightly News anchor who was demoted for telling a fake war story calls it “the end of one chapter and the start of another”

Brian Williams, who remade his career as an MSNBC host after losing his job as an NBC Nightly News presenter for making false statements about a war story, is leaving the network after 28 years.

Williams said in a note to colleagues that “after a lot of thought” he decided to step down at the end of his contract in December.

“It’s the end of one chapter and the start of another,” Williams wrote. “There are a lot of things I want to do and I will come back somewhere. “

Willliams, 62, said he would take a few months off to spend time with his family.

Williams was the main presenter of NBC News from 2004 to 2015, when he was suspended for falsely claiming he was in a helicopter hit by enemy fire during the Iraq war.

A subsequent investigation revealed that he had made further inaccurate statements about his experiences covering events, and he lost his job.

He later received the 11pm time on MSNBC, which he turned into an entertaining and fast-paced newscast summarizing the day’s news.

“Over the next few months, I will be with my family, the people I love the most and the people who have made my career a reality. I’ll think about how kind people have shown me, and I’ll pay it off to the next, â€Williams said in the statement.

Williams began airing his current show, The 11th Hour, shortly before the 2016 presidential election. His current contract will expire at the end of 2021.
