Big Y hosts Big Vax Week with on-site multi-vaccine clinics
SPRINGFIELD – Big Y is hosting multi-vaccine clinics on-site for all customers, employees and their families until Saturday, October 2.
All stores will offer seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines and stores with an on-site pharmacy will also offer a variety of vaccines, including seasonal flu, pneumonia, shingles, Tdap, hepatitis A and B , meningococcus, MMR and HPV.
What Big Y is touting as the first-ever community-wide event covers each of Big Y’s 71 locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut, the Springfield-based company said in a press release. All locations, including those with a pharmacy, will have a specific clinic day during Big Vax week where clients who receive a vaccine will receive a $ 5 out of $ 25 Big Y coupon along with other freebies.

Big Y says it has administered 152,000 doses of various vaccines over the past five years.

Big Y has said it will administer COVID booster shots at all Big Y pharmacies as per CDC recommendations and regardless of where someone received their original COVID vaccine, whether from Big Y or another pharmacy, retailer or clinic. Big Y follows state and federal approved age limits for all vaccines.

The Big Y Immunization Program provides clinical experience for health care students at Elms College School of Nursing, Western New England University College of Pharmacy, and the Gateway and Porter and Chester Institute nursing programs.
Since January 2021, Big Y pharmacists and these teams have administered nearly 50,000 COVID vaccines.
Hampden County lags the state on immunization. As of September 21, only 54% of the county’s population were fully vaccinated against COVID. This is the lowest percentage in the state. Hampshire County is higher, at 59%, and Franklin County’s rate is 63%. The county of Berkshire is 64%.
